I had to remove temporary files every so often on a Windows 2008 R2 x64 server.  When exporting audio files from a Cybertech NTR 6.5.3 server using the bulk download tool the temp files fill up the c:\ drive. This doesn’t work for us so:

I wrote this batch file


cd “C:\ProgramData\CyberTech\MediaManager”
pause “Delete These Files?, press any key to do it or control c to quit”
del *.* /F /Q

Basically it will go to the directory listed in the first line and display a directory on the screen. If you hit any key it will permanatly delete the files and show another directory listing. If you want to abort hit control C when prompted.

You can automate this by adding it to a scheduled task or removew the pause line to require no intervention! Be careful!!

It’s Microsoft’s first Office product for iOS, and while right now it’s iPhone only, if you have an Office 365 subscription, it’s worth a download if you want quick access to your SkyDrive and cloud-hosted Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files on the go or offline.

Office Mobile gives you access to all of your SkyDrive, SkyDrive Pro, or SharePoint-stored Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. You can open them, view them, edit them, add comments to existing documents that have been shared with you, and even create new documents and get to work—-presumably on your iPhone, since the iPad version of the app isn’t available yet (although you could always expand the iPhone version to 2x and work that way). Documents you’ve recently edited on your desktop float to the top, and you can search your account for others. The app even supports offline editing, so you can work if you’re on a plane or without an internet connection.

To begin automatically backing up and creating a history of your files, you’ll first need to set up a File History drive and turn File History on.

You have to activate it first, but Windows 8 File History will periodically save the contents of your Contacts, Desktop, Favorites and Libraries to a secondary or external hard drive or network location.

Windows 8 tries to improve on Previous Versions with a new feature called File History, which automatically backs up your Contacts, Internet Explorer Favorites, Libraries and Desktop. Because File History backs up all Libraries, not just the four defaults (Documents, Pictures, Music, and Video), as long as you keep all of your personal files in a Library you can rest assured that they’re being backed up.

As it happens, File History is disabled by default, so you have to turn it on before it can help you. To find File History, search for it under Settings (Windows +W if you’re using a keyboard), open it (it launches as a Windows 7-style Control Panel item), and click the Turn On button.  If your computer is the member of a HomeGroup, you’ll be given the option to recommend the drive you chose to other members. From Advanced settings you can also configure the size of the offline cache, which retains some of your File History on your primary storage device so you can still access it even if you’re not connected to the secondary/external/network drive.

As you might imagine, this comes in handy on mobile devices such as notebooks and tablets. If you plan to spend lots of time disconnected from your File History drive, can spare the space on your mobile device, and you want your File History to go back as far as possible, it’s worth bumping the offline cache up from the default 5 percent to 10 percent or even 20 percent (the maximum). Note, however, new backups aren’t performed unless the File History drive is available.


To turn on File History

  1. Open File History by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you’re using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering File History in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking File History.
  2. Tap or click Turn on.

To restore your files

  1. Restore your files by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you’re using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering restore your files in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking Restore your files with File History.
  2. Enter the specific file you’re looking for in the search box, or use the left and right arrows  to browse your folders and files.
  3. Select what you want to restore to its original location, and then tap or click the Restore button.If you want to restore your files to a different location than the original, press and hold or right-click the Restore button, tap or click Restore To, and then choose a new location.

Set up a drive for File History


Before you start using File History to back up your files, you’ll need to set up a drive  to save files to. We recommend that you use an external drive or network location to help protect your files against a crash or other PC problem. For more info about using File History, see How to use File History.

File History only saves copies of files that are in  your libraries, contacts, favorites, Microsoft SkyDrive, and your desktop.  If you have files or folders elsewhere that you want backed up, you can add them to one of your existing libraries or  create a new library.

To set up a drive

Open File History by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you’re using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering File History in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking File History.

I used to wonder why anyone would want to pause the commercials in Hulu. There is a pause button present after all. It turns out you can use that pause button to skip the commercials. Check out the steps below provided by eHow.

Open a program on Hulu and wait a few seconds for the initial advertisement  to start. Click the “Pause” button. Wait for the “streaming” indicator at the  bottom of the program window to fill completely with a solid gray  color.

Click at the end of the timeline. This will fast forward immediately to the  end of the advertisement. Click “Play.” The last second or two of the ad will  play, and your program will begin.

Click anywhere inside a previously viewed portion of the timeline when an ad  begins in the middle of the program. Select any part of the video you have  already watched once the ad begins to play. Then, click inside the part of the  timeline immediately after the advertisement to skip that  ad.

This is highly annoying and needs a workaround to view only unread messages in any Gmail account:

  • Type “is:unread” (not including the quotation marks) in the Gmail search field.
  • Click Search Mail.

As a shortcut you can use “l:unread” or even “l:^u” instead of “is:unread” (or “label:unread“).

Don’t forget you can combine this search for unread messages with others like this:

  • “l:^u from:karl” finds all unread messages from “karl”,
  • “l:^u l:^t” finds all unread starred mail, and
  • “l:^u l:^k subject:invoice” finds all unread messages with the word “invoice” in the subject that are in the Trash.

Here are the steps:

Part 1: Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder

Locating and consolidating your media will make sure all of your content is in the same location. To determine the location of your iTunes Media folder:

  1. Open iTunes Preferences: Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences. Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
  2. Click Advanced and note the location of your iTunes Media folder.
  3. If you’re not going to be able to complete these steps all at once, it’s a good idea to make sure that any new content you might add to your iTunes library gets added to the iTunes Music folder. To do this, just be sure there’s a check in the checkbox next to “Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library.”
  4. Click OK.
  5. For iTunes 9 or later, choose File > Library > Organize Library… > Consolidate Files.     For iTunes 8.2.1 or earlier, choose File > Library > Consolidate.
  6. An alert may appear stating: “Consolidating your  library will copy all of your music into the iTunes Media folder. This  cannot be undone.”Note:

    Mac OS X: By default, iTunes on  Mac OS X keeps a consolidated library, so this option likely will not  increase the space needed on your hard disk. Windows: Consolidating will cause iTunes to copy all of your music files that appear in iTunes to one central location on your computer  (the iTunes Media folder). The original files will now be duplicates  which you will need to manually remove from their various locations if  you don’t want them to take up additional drive space. If your computer  does not have enough hard-drive space, this process will not work  correctly. Contact your computer manufacturer or Microsoft for  more information on how to obtain more space to perform this action.

  7. Click Consolidate.


Now you can remove the old folder after you validate everything has moved over. Get your hard-drive space back for some more torrenting!

What is a Copyright Alert?

Artists, moviemakers and other owners of contentCCI members that represent the artists and companies that create movies, music and television shows join public peer-2-peer (P2P) networksSharing files over the Internet that involves an individual computer linking to a wide network of computers to download copies of files and share and distribute copies of those files. to see if the music, movies, and TV shows they’ve made available are being shared without permission and in violation of U.S. copyrightCopyright enables artists (people who create songs, movies and TV shows) to decide how to distribute and to be paid for their work; Copyright protects ownership rights whether on CD, DVD or as a digital file on the Internet. law. If they notice that a file is being shared illegally, they notify the appropriate Internet Service Provider (ISP)A company that provides Internet access services via residential, wired networks to consumers who subscribe and pay for those services. and that ISP, in turn, passes on that notice to their subscriber as a Copyright Alert.

How Do Content Owners Know About My Activity?

CCI’s content partners – companies that own and develop music, movies and TV shows – join peer-to-peer networks and locate the music, movies or TV shows they have created and own. Once they see a title being made available on the peer-to-peer network, they confirm that it is, in fact, copyrighted content.

After confirming that a file appears to have been shared illegally, content owners identify the Internet Protocol (IP) addressA unique set of numbers associated with individual computers connected to the Internet.   used by the computer making the file available. Each IP address belongs to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), so content owners notify the ISP to which the address is assigned and the ISP then passes a Copyright Alert on to its customer.

No personal information about consumers is shared between the content owners and ISPs, and ISPs are not involved in the process of identifying copyrighted content.

Now you can log-on to Windows 8 using your Microsoft account. This can be beneficial when you want to synchronize most of your Desktop settings across multiple computers. This can be achieved using roaming profiles instead of the local ones if you are on a local area network. The Microsoft account can synchronize settings across the Internet provided that the computers are connected to the Internet.
When we create a user in Windows 8 with a Microsoft account ID, it automatically creates the user folder in C:\Users \ folder. The problem here is that the folder that has been created automatically cannot be renamed. This not only applies to the user folder but also to the user-name. If you rename the folder, the next time you log-in to Windows 8, it will log-in with a temporary profile. Let’s go through the correct way of renaming the user folder step by step.

Creating an administrative local user

First of all, you will need to have a local account with administrative privileges in order to rename the Microsoft account. To create a local user with administrative privileges, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to Run –> control userpasswords2

  2. The user accounts window will open. Click on the Add button to add a new user.

  5. On the next screen, you can enter the desired username, password and password hint. All fields are mandatory and need to be filled before continuing
  6. After you have created the account, you should go to User Accounts window (Step 1), select the user from the list and click on the Properties button
  7. Under Group Membership tab, select Administrator. This will add the user to Administrators group.

Please note that you cannot use the user switching feature because in order to change the account name, the actual user should not be logged in.

Renaming the user profile

If I am logged into my Windows 8 computer with the Microsoft ID, my user ID shows as nanos_000. I want to change it to usman-microsoft. Here are the steps for doing this:

  1. Go to Computer Management (Windows Key + X + K)
  2. Open System Tools à Local Users and Groups à Users
  3. In the right hand pane, right click the user which you want to rename, select Rename and type whatever name you want to give to the user.

This is half the work done. Now you will need to rename the user folder so that Windows can map the same user and the user folder. This will be done through Windows Registry. Before the next step, you can also rename the user folder C:\Users\username to whatever you like.

Telling Windows about the new profile path

Windows 8 stores user profile paths in the Registry. To change the user profile path, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Run  –> regedit
  2. Go to the following registry path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
  3. Expanding ProfileList key will show sub-keys. You can go through each sub-key and find the correct user profile which needs changing.
  4. After we have identified the correct sub-key, we can change the value of ProfileImagePath on the right hand pane to the new user folder which we have renamed.

This is the final step. Now you can restart your computer and log-in with the same Microsoft user credentials as before but the username and the user folder will be changed.
