It is all of a sudden a lot cheaper for storage! 1 TeraByte for a year now only costs $120! Wow!! Check it out and let us know in the comments what you use to backup your data…

We’ve lowered the price of our monthly storage plans to $1.99 for 100GB (previously $4.99), $9.99 for 1TB (previously $49.99), and $99.99 for 10TB, with even more storage available if you need it. How big is a terabyte anyway? Well, that’s enough storage for you to take a selfie twice a day for the next 200 years and still have room left over for… shall we say… less important things. Like before, storage continues to work across Drive, Gmail and Google+ Photos. And, of course, the 15GB plan remains free.
Google Drive Prices just Dropped Drastically!
You can sign up for one of these new Google Drive storage plans at www.google.com/settings/storage. If you already pay for storage, you’ll automatically move to a better plan at no additional cost. You can visit the storage purchase page to make a change or review your account, and see the Help Center for more information on these simpler storage options.

Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com http://www.asktheadmin.com/?p=4581 Hey AskTheAdmin Readers!

I had to remove temporary files every so often on a Windows 2008 R2 x64 server.  When exporting audio files from a Cybertech NTR 6.5.3 server using the bulk download tool the temp files fill up the c:\ drive. This doesn’t work for us so:

I wrote this batch file

cd “C:\ProgramData\CyberTech\MediaManager”
dir
pause “Delete These Files?, press any key to do it or control c to quit”
del *.* /F /Q
dir
pause

Basically it will go to the directory listed in the first line and display a directory on the screen. If you hit any key it will permanatly delete the files and show another directory listing. If you want to abort hit control C when prompted.

You can automate this by adding it to a scheduled task or removew the pause line to require no intervention! Be careful!!

iOS: Microsoft Office Mobile for Office 365 quietly landed the iTunes App Store this morning. It’s Microsoft’s first Office product for iOS, and while right now it’s iPhone only, if you have an Office 365 subscription, it’s worth a download if you want quick access to your SkyDrive and cloud-hosted Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files on the go or offline.

Office Mobile gives you access to all of your SkyDrive, SkyDrive Pro, or SharePoint-stored Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. You can open them, view them, edit them, add comments to existing documents that have been shared with you, and even create new documents and get to work—-presumably on your iPhone, since the iPad version of the app isn’t available yet (although you could always expand the iPhone version to 2x and work that way). Documents you’ve recently edited on your desktop float to the top, and you can search your account for others. The app even supports offline editing, so you can work if you’re on a plane or without an internet connection.

You do have to have an active Office 365 subscription in order to use the app, but the app itself is free. Hit the link below to grab it, or head to The Microsoft Office Blog to read more.

This HP notebook has passed nine MIL-SPEC tests including those for dust, vibrations, shock, altitude, transit drop, Temperature shock, Low temperature, high temperatures and humidity. This 3 and a half pound pretty EliteBook has sure made us rethink Windows 8!

At 13.3 x 9.1 x 0.75 inches and 3.6 pounds, the Folio 9470m is heavier than other notebooks in it’s league but they can’t compete with the looks of this thin laptop. That is less than 3/4 an inch thick (or thin – depends on how you look at it.) This is also the thinnest EliteBook yet.

An absolute must in laptops is the 9470m’s spill-resistant keyboard, huge touch pad and bright display. The touch pad is a whopping 4.2 x 2.3-inches and is very responsive. It still has the little nipple for additional mouse control. Strangely this device stayed cool on our laps even after extended use.

HP has a docking solution that makes this EliteBook an even more appealing office solution. I love this light system that I can come home and throw on the dock – and now it is a full sized system with dual screens.

hp2 150x150 HP EliteBook Folio 9470M Review

The battery life is also wonderful. We saw around 7 hours out of normal use with the brightness at 50% and using Wi-Fi or broadband.

There’s no touchscreen on this one, but you’ll be able to take advantage of all of the other awesomeness that Windows 8 Pro has to offer.

There is something for everyone including built-in VGA, DisplayPort, Ethernet, and three USB 3.0 ports.

You can add on options to the base model like a 720p webcam, a choice of third-gen Intel processors, up to 16GB of RAM, and either a 500GB hard drive or a 256GB SSD.

HP is selling the EliteBook Folio 9470m now, with a starting price of $1,349. For pictures and purchases check out this link from HP or this link from Amazon.

The bandwidth and network setups over that bandwidth in addition to the carriers offering the bandwidths are simply as vital to the effective application of SIP in company interactions. Various other essential facets can be neighborhood hardware setups and existing in-use phone systems.

However, before migrating your current telecom system to SIP, it’s important to understand that some companies are much better matched for a smaller sized company VoIP or T-1 voice option. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com http://www.asktheadmin.com/?p=4511 ↓ Read the rest of this entry...]]> The online world has a significant presence in everybody’s life to such an extent that it is difficult to promote and market your business today without a website. However, marketing your business doesn’t stop at owning a website.

Every website owner out there is desperately trying to conquer the world of online marketing for his/her business to achieve success and the two most effective ways in which you can do so are:

  1. Increasing the search ranking of your website through Search Engine Optimization strategies.
  2. Creating a social media presence to convert followers into potential customers.

These two tried and tested strategies for successful business operations have proved to be highly effective. Hence, if you combine the two by adopting a social media strategy for Search Engine Optimization, you will surely take your business on the high road to success.

Let us see how social media and search engine optimization can be combined to produce effective results for the success of business.

What Is SEO?

SEO or search engine optimization is the practice of altering a website in terms of its looks, content, matter, purpose and functionality to be ranked and indexed by search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Search engines are known to send out search spiders to look at content and tags within websites to provide web surfers with relevant search results. Therefore, when you “optimize” your website, you are increasing its visibility to search engines.

Website owners can undertake various strategies such as keyword optimization, backlink building, using social networks, alt tags, etc. for SEO purposes.

How Is Social Media Relevant To Your Business?

Recognition is an important factor for the success of any brand. This is mainly why you will find that every possible company today has a social media presence on major sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus. These brands are thus trying to build a reputation, gain recognition, exposure and popularity for their business by connecting with their customers on social networking sites.

Social Media can be used to inform customers and potential customers about various schemes, offers, advantages, upgrades and other relevant information about the products and services your business offers. This action encourages people to purchase your product or service.

So, how can you utilize social media as an effective SEO strategy?

Combining Social Media and SEO For Effective Business Solutions

If you delve into the subject, there are quite a number of effective ways in which social media can be combined with SEO for a successful social SEO strategy. Here’s how you can integrate both the aspects to generate a power packed SEO strategy.

1.    Connect Your Website To Your Social Networking Profile

Provide your website’s visitors with the contact details of your social profile so that they may connect with you in the social zone. Include social networking icons and buttons on your website as it will encourage your visitors to network socially with you.

2.    Target Keywords

Your website’s content probably already contains specific target keywords for SEO purposes. You can use the very same keywords while posting content on your social profile. You can also include keywords in the “About Us” section of your social profile.

3.    Provide A Link To Your Website In Your Social Profile

When you provide your followers with a link to your website in your social profile, you are endorsing your website to them. This action helps you in two ways:

  • If your followers enjoy your social networking page and your website, they will share your website and social profile with others. This increases exposure for your business because more people will get to talking about it.

  • Search engines favor such social activity. They pick up website endorsements and this becomes a factor determining your search ranking.

4.    Encourage Backlink Building

When you share interesting content with your followers through your social profile, you are increasing the likelihood of your followers to share that content with their friends. You may share information about interesting offers, captivating content, relevant and resourceful articles and interesting graphics.

There is no guarantee that your audience will share it, but even if 1 follower out of 20 retweets, shares or +1s your content, that one person is likely to influence many others. When your website link is shared, this action builds backlinks for your website, which is considered favorable to your search rankings.

There are two pillars that are critical to the success of your Social SEO strategy, both of which are very easy to put into practice.

1.    Be Active on your social profile so that your customers keep visiting your page.

2.    Add Value because your customers come looking for relevant information and will be disappointed if you do not meet their expectations.

Therefore, a SOCIAL SEO strategy is paramount to the success of your business and this is not just a social experiment. Just take a tour around Google and you’ll find proof that these strategies do work.

This post has been penned by Yasir Khan, expert SEO Consultant and founder of Quantum SEO Labs, Canada. Quantum SEO Labs can provide you with customized solutions to combine your SEO and Social Media for the success of your business.

What is File History on Windows 8? Is it like shadow copy? http://www.asktheadmin.com/2013/03/what-is-file-history-on-windows-8-is-it-like-shadow-copy.html http://www.asktheadmin.com/2013/03/what-is-file-history-on-windows-8-is-it-like-shadow-copy.html#comments Tue, 26 Mar 2013 19:09:15 +0000 Karl L. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com http://www.asktheadmin.com/?p=4503 ↓ Read the rest of this entry...]]> ee4e4dc4 e51f 4c91 be37 9063abac84c5 21 What is File History on Windows 8? Is it like shadow copy?

File History automatically backs up files that are in your libraries, contacts, favorites, Microsoft SkyDrive and on your desktop. If the originals are lost, damaged, or deleted, you can restore all of them. You can also  find different versions of your  files from a specific point in time. Over time, you’ll have a complete history of your files.

To begin automatically backing up and creating a history of your files, you’ll first need to set up a File History drive and turn File History on.

You have to activate it first, but Windows 8 File History will periodically save the contents of your Contacts, Desktop, Favorites and Libraries to a secondary or external hard drive or network location.

Windows 8 tries to improve on Previous Versions with a new feature called File History, which automatically backs up your Contacts, Internet Explorer Favorites, Libraries and Desktop. Because File History backs up all Libraries, not just the four defaults (Documents, Pictures, Music, and Video), as long as you keep all of your personal files in a Library you can rest assured that they’re being backed up.

As it happens, File History is disabled by default, so you have to turn it on before it can help you. To find File History, search for it under Settings (Windows +W if you’re using a keyboard), open it (it launches as a Windows 7-style Control Panel item), and click the Turn On button.  If your computer is the member of a HomeGroup, you’ll be given the option to recommend the drive you chose to other members. (If the button isn’t active, it means that no suitable backup location was found.)

At left, you’ll find options to exclude certain folders from File History and save your backups to a different drive. Under Advanced settings, you can adjust how frequently File History makes copies and how long it will keep them — the defaults are once an hour and forever, respectively.

From Advanced settings you can also configure the size of the offline cache, which retains some of your File History on your primary storage device so you can still access it even if you’re not connected to the secondary/external/network drive.

As you might imagine, this comes in handy on mobile devices such as notebooks and tablets. If you plan to spend lots of time disconnected from your File History drive, can spare the space on your mobile device, and you want your File History to go back as far as possible, it’s worth bumping the offline cache up from the default 5 percent to 10 percent or even 20 percent (the maximum). Note, however, new backups aren’t performed unless the File History drive is available.

To turn on File History

  1. Open File History by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you’re using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering File History in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking File History.
  2. Tap or click Turn on.

To restore your files

  1. Restore your files by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you’re using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering restore your files in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking Restore your files with File History.
  2. Enter the specific file you’re looking for in the search box, or use the left and right arrows  to browse your folders and files.
  3. Select what you want to restore to its original location, and then tap or click the Restore button. If you want to restore your files to a different location than the original, press and hold or right-click the Restore button, tap or click Restore To, and then choose a new location.

Set up a drive for File History

Before you start using File History to back up your files, you’ll need to set up a drive  to save files to. We recommend that you use an external drive or network location to help protect your files against a crash or other PC problem. For more info about using File History, see How to use File History.

File History only saves copies of files that are in  your libraries, contacts, favorites, Microsoft SkyDrive, and your desktop.  If you have files or folders elsewhere that you want backed up, you can add them to one of your existing libraries or  create a new library.

To set up a drive

  1. Connect an external drive.
  3. Tap or click Turn on.
 TIPS:
  • To help avoid filling up your File History drive too fast, you can  set how often files are copied and how long older versions of your files are kept. For more info, see What if something goes wrong in File History?.
  • If you don’t want a folder backed up, you can exclude it from File History. Tap or click Exclude folders, tap or click Add, and then select the folder you want excluded from backups.

I personally hate when Email threads get to be very long. It is easy enough to remove unnecessary text from your email replys in Gmail or Google Apps. You need to enable this via Google’s Labs feature. You can do so by:

Going to settings, go to labs, locate and enable:

Quote selected text

Now before you hit reply, highlight the block of text you want quoted and then hit reply. This will only include the highlighted text in your reply! Thanks Google!

hulu Hulu: Skip the commercials!

I used to wonder why anyone would want to pause the commercials in Hulu. There is a pause button present after all. It turns out you can use that pause button to skip the commercials. Check out the steps below provided by eHow.

Open a program on Hulu and wait a few seconds for the initial advertisement  to start. Click the “Pause” button. Wait for the “streaming” indicator at the  bottom of the program window to fill completely with a solid gray  color.

Click at the end of the timeline. This will fast forward immediately to the  end of the advertisement. Click “Play.” The last second or two of the ad will  play, and your program will begin.

Click anywhere inside a previously viewed portion of the timeline when an ad  begins in the middle of the program. Select any part of the video you have  already watched once the ad begins to play. Then, click inside the part of the  timeline immediately after the advertisement to skip that  ad.

This is highly annoying and needs a workaround to view only unread messages in any Gmail account:

  • Type “is:unread” (not including the quotation marks) in the Gmail search field.
  • Click Search Mail.

As a shortcut you can use “l:unread” or even “l:^u” instead of “is:unread” (or “label:unread“).

Don’t forget you can combine this search for unread messages with others like this:

  • “l:^u from:karl” finds all unread messages from “karl”,
  • “l:^u l:^t” finds all unread starred mail, and
  • “l:^u l:^k subject:invoice” finds all unread messages with the word “invoice” in the subject that are in the Trash.

Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com http://www.asktheadmin.com/?p=4469 ↓ Read the rest of this entry...]]> We have seen this question more than a hundred times and it should be addressed as a searchable article…

Here are the steps:

Part 1: Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder

Locating and consolidating your media will make sure all of your content is in the same location. To determine the location of your iTunes Media folder:

  1. Open iTunes Preferences: Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences. Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
  2. Click Advanced and note the location of your iTunes Media folder.
  3. If you’re not going to be able to complete these steps all at once, it’s a good idea to make sure that any new content you might add to your iTunes library gets added to the iTunes Music folder. To do this, just be sure there’s a check in the checkbox next to “Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library.”
  4. Click OK.
  5. For iTunes 9 or later, choose File > Library > Organize Library… > Consolidate Files.     For iTunes 8.2.1 or earlier, choose File > Library > Consolidate.
  6. An alert may appear stating: “Consolidating your  library will copy all of your music into the iTunes Media folder. This  cannot be undone.”Note:

Mac OS X: By default, iTunes on  Mac OS X keeps a consolidated library, so this option likely will not  increase the space needed on your hard disk. Windows: Consolidating will cause iTunes to copy all of your music files that appear in iTunes to one central location on your computer  (the iTunes Media folder). The original files will now be duplicates  which you will need to manually remove from their various locations if  you don’t want them to take up additional drive space. If your computer  does not have enough hard-drive space, this process will not work  correctly. Contact your computer manufacturer or Microsoft for  more information on how to obtain more space to perform this action.

  7. Click Consolidate.

Now you can remove the old folder after you validate everything has moved over. Get your hard-drive space back for some more torrenting!

Please read …

What is a Copyright Alert?

Artists, moviemakers and other owners of contentCCI members that represent the artists and companies that create movies, music and television shows join public peer-2-peer (P2P) networksSharing files over the Internet that involves an individual computer linking to a wide network of computers to download copies of files and share and distribute copies of those files. to see if the music, movies, and TV shows they’ve made available are being shared without permission and in violation of U.S. copyrightCopyright enables artists (people who create songs, movies and TV shows) to decide how to distribute and to be paid for their work; Copyright protects ownership rights whether on CD, DVD or as a digital file on the Internet. law. If they notice that a file is being shared illegally, they notify the appropriate Internet Service Provider (ISP)A company that provides Internet access services via residential, wired networks to consumers who subscribe and pay for those services. and that ISP, in turn, passes on that notice to their subscriber as a Copyright Alert.

Subscribers are responsible for making sure their Internet account is not used for copyright infringementThe illegal distribution of copyrighted works usually without the permission of the copyright owner.. Copyright Alerts assist in this process by:

  • Making accountholders aware that unlawful content sharing may have happened using their internet account;
  • Educating accountholders on how they can prevent copyright infringement from happening again and
  • Providing consumers information about ways to access digital content legally.

After receiving one Alert, we believe most consumers will take the appropriate steps to avoid additional Alerts. However, if copyright infringement continues on a subscriber’s account, our member ISPs can take steps that temporarily affect that subscriber’s Internet experience.

Depending on the service provider, the ISP’s range of actions may include:

  • A temporary reduction in Internet speed;
  • A temporary downgrade in Internet service tier or
  • Redirection to a landing page for a set period of time, until a subscriber contacts the ISP or until the subscriber completes an online copyright education program.

Before each Alert is sent, a rigorous process ensures the content identified is definitely protected by copyright and that the notice is forwarded to the right Subscriber.  Nonetheless, if a subscriber feels that he or she has received a one or more Alerts in error, CCI has created an Independent Review ProcessProcess implemented by the American Arbitration Association to provide a Subscriber at the Mitigation Stage an impartial review of Copyright Alerts. for subscribers to pursue before any additional measures that may impact service are imposed. This process is run by the American Arbitration Association and designed just for the Copyright Alert System.

How Do Content Owners Know About My Activity?

CCI’s content partners – companies that own and develop music, movies and TV shows – join peer-to-peer networks and locate the music, movies or TV shows they have created and own. Once they see a title being made available on the peer-to-peer network, they confirm that it is, in fact, copyrighted content.

After confirming that a file appears to have been shared illegally, content owners identify the Internet Protocol (IP) addressA unique set of numbers associated with individual computers connected to the Internet.   used by the computer making the file available. Each IP address belongs to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), so content owners notify the ISP to which the address is assigned and the ISP then passes a Copyright Alert on to its customer.

No personal information about consumers is shared between the content owners and ISPs, and ISPs are not involved in the process of identifying copyrighted content.

Now you can log-on to Windows 8 using your Microsoft account. This can be beneficial when you want to synchronize most of your Desktop settings across multiple computers. This can be achieved using roaming profiles instead of the local ones if you are on a local area network. The Microsoft account can synchronize settings across the Internet provided that the computers are connected to the Internet.
When we create a user in Windows 8 with a Microsoft account ID, it automatically creates the user folder in C:\Users \ folder. The problem here is that the folder that has been created automatically cannot be renamed. This not only applies to the user folder but also to the user-name. If you rename the folder, the next time you log-in to Windows 8, it will log-in with a temporary profile. Let’s go through the correct way of renaming the user folder step by step.

Creating an administrative local user

First of all, you will need to have a local account with administrative privileges in order to rename the Microsoft account. To create a local user with administrative privileges, follow the steps below.

Renaming the user profile

If I am logged into my Windows 8 computer with the Microsoft ID, my user ID shows as nanos_000. I want to change it to usman-microsoft. Here are the steps for doing this:

  1. Go to Computer Management (Windows Key + X + K)
  2. Open System Tools à Local Users and Groups à Users
  3. In the right hand pane, right click the user which you want to rename, select Rename and type whatever name you want to give to the user.

This is half the work done. Now you will need to rename the user folder so that Windows can map the same user and the user folder. This will be done through Windows Registry. Before the next step, you can also rename the user folder C:\Users\username to whatever you like.

Telling Windows about the new profile path

6 Changing profile path in registry How To Rename Microsoft Account Usernames And User Folders In Windows 8

Windows 8 stores user profile paths in the Registry. To change the user profile path, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Run  –> regedit
  2. Go to the following registry path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
  3. Expanding ProfileList key will show sub-keys. You can go through each sub-key and find the correct user profile which needs changing.
  4. After we have identified the correct sub-key, we can change the value of ProfileImagePath on the right hand pane to the new user folder which we have renamed.

This is the final step. Now you can restart your computer and log-in with the same Microsoft user credentials as before but the username and the user folder will be changed.
