Piracy poster from the 80’s
I found this old anti-piracy poster the other day and thought I would share it with you. You might think that piracy is something new because it has been getting a lot of press lately with the Pirate Bay case and all, but software and movie piracy has been going on for quite a while. I mean, I remember kids whose dads would copy VHS tapes from the rental store using two VCR’s.
When I was in Junior High, my friends and I would all share our PC games (Castle Wolfenstein 3D FTW!)
Here is a poster from the 1980’s. check it out and try not to laugh too hard:

Yes I remember Castle Wolfenstein 3D as well as Doom from High school. Me and my friends (the computer geeks) would trade disks like it was nothing.
But I have a better article suggestion, that I’ve considered writing it myself…
See, when you’re under 18, poor, and love computers. You simply can not afford any kind of software. Sure we shared games but we also shared Applications and Programming tools, etc. If we didn’t share it amongst ourselves in our own little “open source” environments and we had to pay – well we wouldn’t be who we are today. Dont you agree?
Now we almost gladly pay for useful and productive applications that arnt worth 50$, but thousands.
One thing im happy of recently is the Microsoft Dreamspark Student for schools. I wish we had that back in my HS days. I wrote a brief article on it, if you dont mind me posting the link: http://www.techforthemasses.net/2009/05/microsoft-dreamspark-students-can-jumpstart-their-learning-with-free-software/
Thanks for the nostalgia bud!
