HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-Slim Desktop Review and Contest.
Written by Karl L. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com on September 1, 2008 – 12:00 am -
Since this innocent little post I have been bombarded with questions like… “When will you be giving away the HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-Slim Desktop?”, “Can I have the HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-Slim Desktop” and I even recieved an email from someone in Kentucky looking to bake me cookies!
So here is our review on this little wonder of a desktop followed by the contest rules. So keep on reading if you want this little guy to find a home in your living room for free! And let me take this opportunity to thank the good guys at HP and their PR guys. What a wonderful bunch of people!
Not only is this little guy small and looks good in your living room it is also GREEN! No not in color but in spirit. It uses very little power and has some amazing power settings. You can input your price per kw and it will tell you how much it will cost to run for the year! Very nifty.
The HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-Slim Desktop ($1,206 direct, $1,470 with 19-inch widescreen LCD monitor. We have seen it online for as low as $753) is the best looking and most powerful of all these “GreenPc’s” that we have seen so far. Many of the other models (not naming names) use much slower processors and wack components but this dc7800 works… AWESOME!
This dc7800 I reviewed has a 2.66-GHz Core 2 Duo E6750, along with a compact, notebook-class, dual-layer DVD burner and eight USB ports. Don’t let it’s size fool you because it sure packs a wallop. It is 80 PLUS certified—for the laymen it’s 80 percent efficient, unlike the 30-60 percent efficiency of normal AC-to-DC power supplies. The power supply is an external brick.
We are talking Energy Star 4.0 certification: It uses ~2 watts while it is in S3 sleep, ~1W when turned off, and only 33W at idle (but operating). While compressing video and rendering some images the machine ran a little higher than other machines in its class but it does have a more powerful processor.
We love it over here and hate to part with it BUT YOU CAN WIN THIS DESKTOP! We will also pack it chock full of AtA’s favorite Freeware that we have featured over the last two years. All you need to do is send an email to HPContest@AskTheAdmin.com with a short story on why we should give you this machine. Let us know what you are going to do with it - be creative, make us laugh, make us cry… But hey just give it a try. You have to be in it to win it. (Enough with me being a poet for the day…)
Oh and if you win you will get the Dc7800 and a wired HP Keyboard and Mouse. It will NOT come with a support contract.
But hey you got us to help you out right??!?

All I have to say is WOW! Not even 12 hours up and we have 52 WONDERFUL entries. Some of these stories are funny enough to push cofee out your nose and others bring a tear to my eye.
I have a feeling I am going to wind up giving away a few runner up machines from my stash as well. Some of these people are so compelling - Almost want to give away all my machines to help the less fortunate…Easy there, I said Almost :)
Stay tuned for some of the best stories in an upcoming post.

I wasn’t sure on where to send my story to so I will put it here and hope that the right person reads it….
I am a 28 year old single mother of 2, I also have a brain anyerism, which keeps me form working. My sister in law and friend of 15 years recently passed away at the age of 33 from aids. Leaving behind 3 children. I took them all in to avoid seeeing them seperated and placed into foster care. Well the 6 of us are living in a one bedroom apartment. We are barely making ends meet because no one helps us financially. All three kids have a different father, one just gets worse then the next. We basically live on love. The ages of the kids are 2, 3, 8, 10 & 16. One of my “kids” was featured in the jersey journal this week, I’m including a link for anyone that is interested in reading it. If there is anyone out there that is willing to help us to make life a little easier you can contact me at arodsbaby@gmail.com A new computer would be great to help the 16 year old with school work. Well in any case thanks for listening! heres that link http://www.nj.com/columns/jjournal/index.ssf?/base/living-0/1220509538118300.xml&coll=3

I have her all boxed up and ready to go! And remember we will be throwing in a bunch of AtA goodies for our grand prize winner and 3 runner-ups.
Thanks for playing and reading guys!
