AskTheAdmin is beta testing a new version of Digsby.
If you are a reader of AskTheAdmin you know we love us some Digsby for inter-platform/client Instant Messaging.
Yes that is a mouth full but with this new release come promises of a MUCH MUCH MUCH smaller memory foot print.
I have seen my Digsby shoot up to as much as 150mb but seeming I am running close to 4gb it doesn’t really bother me. But to some of my fellow admins 150mb is half their system ram and that is just out and out unacceptable. With this release the forums say you will max out at 50mb and it is sitting pretty on my XP SP3 system at 27MB. A huge improvement.
They need people to help them test it out. Hook them up and tell them AtA sent ya!
Check out the new Digsby over here…
Love it or hate it… Leave em’ in the comments!

Maybe I can help – what are you trying to access and what errors are you getting? Are you using the standard ports or have you moddified them? How locked down are you? Can you remote desktop elsewhere?

no, maybe my IT manager block address msg.yahoo.com that use by YM protocol. because the other account in my digbsy went fine (yahoo mail notification, gmail notification, facebook chat + notification).
Trying to change the host address and port number, still no luck, as the other host address still end with msg.yahoo.com. :(
My current solution is using Meebone (http://code.google.com/p/meebone/)+ adobe air, it use http protocol (+meebo server perhaps?).
Still I’m curious about connect to meebo server as my YM host.
As a *local* sysadmin here, i can do remote desktop too.
My workplace using skype as communication apps within staffs, while all my friends are using YM. :(

And here is a link to a program that says it can bypass firewalls for popular chat clients.

Yep. Thanks for the info. Btw, symantec corporate inside my network detect that program as a malware/spyware, hence I can’t launch it. :(
Guess I’ll stick to meebone.
