KEEP XP ALIVE!! Vista SUCKS, and here’s why: 1) Incompatibility with GOBS of software – or it works but not quite the same, 2) Confirmation prompt after confirmation prompt, 3) Programs magically crash under Vista and not XP, 4) Requirement to seek permission from some mysterious administrator, when – OH WAIT – I AM the administrator!!!, 5) DreamScene makes computer (albeit a darn good one) freeze, 6) Inability to install fonts in bulk, 7) Folder settings resetting on their own CONSTANTLY, 8) Graphics editing programs suddenly can’t handle large images anymore, 9) Printers cannot be found, 10) Difficulty visualizing what folder or files are highlighted in Windows Explorer, 11) Switching between Windows Explorer windows takes forever sometimes, 12) Internet Explorer suddenly doesn’t remember passwords or prompt to save them, 13) Desktop search function takes forever and is too complicated, 14) PDF Printer suddenly doesn’t work, 15) Network connectivity is CONSTANTLY lost…need I say more!?!?!?!

Faster and more reliably? EVERYTHING? Sure, tell me another one. Linux is ok but for most desktop users? Not an option. I guess if you don't play games, its ok. But if you play games, Linux won't work well for you.

Its less of an issue as it is an annoyance. There is no reason to block viewing of settings you can change. Its like putting a program icon on your desktop that is invisible except the drop shadow at the edges and you can still click it, delete it, move it, etc.

PROTIP: This has nothing to do with Vista. It's NTFS, so anywhere from WinNT, 2k, 2k3, XP, Vista, Longhorn Server, you can get the same error.

You are likely an administrator, and removed inheritance (or another user/process tightened up permissions).

Easy to fix.

well!!! why are you even using vista. linux ubuntu does everything vista does faster and more reliably. i have no pitty for people who won't even try a better op sys. i admit for a windoze user the learning curve is a bit steep because you have to unlearn windoze. but i'm over 50 and i just started using linux last yr and i'll never buy another copy of windoze heck last month i turned down a free copy of vista home premium.

StumbleUpon still works though. I'm going with the "you can take ownership." I have Windows Vista and I was forced to take ownership of the whole C: drive after installation just to write to it and edit files.

Haha, that's quite the jackass, that Vista, ain't he? :D

I had taken a screenshot recently of installing Nokia phone software/drivers, and it showed "installing items 254 of 251". Bet you can't beat that in terms of sheer stupidity(XP's, not mine)
