The fastest Vista laptop is a MACBOOK Pro…WTF?
Oct 31st
So get this one PCWorld does a lot of laptop testing and they have concluded that The Macbook Pro runs Vista better then any other machine!
The fastest Windows Vista notebook we’ve tested this year is a Mac. Try that again: The fastest Windows Vista notebook we’ve tested this year–or for that matter, ever–is a Mac. Not a Dell, not a Toshiba, not even an Alienware.
The $2419 (plus the price of a copy of Windows Vista, of course) MacBook Pro’s PC WorldBench 6 Beta 2 score of 88 beats Gateway’s E-265M by a single point, but the MacBook’s score is far more impressive simply because Apple couldn’t care less whether you run Windows. Full Review.
Why does this give me the creeps? I know I know it is Halloween and all but this sent a chill up my spine. Apple makes better Windows hardware than any PC manufacturer – how can that be? Say it ain’t so guys… With the way things are going my next laptop might just well be a MBP! Wow I never thought I would say that let alone post it.
The dark side is calling… Actually I can never remember is Apple the dark side or is it Windows? Meh! They are all evil.
Happy Halloween From Everyone @ AskTheAdmin!
Is this the Google gPhone?
Oct 31st
So apparently the rumor mill is cranking again and this time it’s Google that has everyone running their mouths…
We found this picture over @ theindiastreet.com and they are reporting that China’s E28 will be Google’s official manufacturer of their coveted gPhone (Now that just doesn’t look right).
I think it is a lot more possible that
- E28 is looking for a little attention
- E28 wants you to know their name. Oh wait…
- IndiaStreet made up the information then got the scoop on the blogosphere…
What do you think?
A reader writes to us with this shot of a different phone:
From their site:
we’ve just confirmed a tip from an industry insider that China’s e28 is going to be Google’s Gphone software and handset manufacturer (this is from one source only – not two as we usually receive). We have not been able to confirm whether the Chinese smart phone manufacturer will have the exclusive Gphone software and handset rights. E28 is a leading provider of mobile Linux convergence technology and will fit the Google mantra of keeping everything open.
e28′s road map includes a statement about the “Era of Convergence” where converged media, converged networks, and converged devices all interact seamlessly. They also plan to implement a robust wireless VoIP system that will reshape the entire mobile industry. One has to wonder how Verizon will react to a VOIP phone unless they are receiving a cut.
e28 and partner NewStep recently completed testing of a seamless handoff of GSM/VoIP interoperability over WLAN and cellular networks and may be another reason Google chose e28 as their manufacturer. In a recent press release, NewStep Network announced their solution for fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) can now provide customers with a fully-VCC (Voice Call Continuity) compliant handset running on a Linux open source operating system from E28.
Roger Kung, chairman and CEO of E28 Limited said, “We recognize the value of assured interoperability between NewStep’s leading FMC solution and our advanced open source handsets optimized for price/performance and deployment flexibility.” NewStep currently offers its’ patented, carrier-class CSN server-based software platform in two versions—the CSN30 for enterprises and small carriers, and the CSN1000 for large carriers. Both platforms converge services across diverse networks to enable subscribers to have a single number, single voicemail, simultaneous ringing across multiple phones and other features like corporate extension dialing, from a single handset. Master the Screen Shot and DON’T send your CEO your desktop!
Oct 30th
Happy Tuesday Morning and here you go, another oldie but goodie. If you hate copying screen shots to your clipboard only to go crop out your desktop afterwards like we used then this tip is for you…
Who wants to send their task bar layered with AOL IM windows and Random Fire Fox Browser Pages on to let the board of directors know how you spend your time?? No I didn’t think so.
If you can relate then this tips for you, faithful Windows User:
Alt + Print Screen
Hit that and BOOM you have a screen shot in your clipboard of only your active window. Leaving behind your slacker goodness and only passing along the relevant stuff. This will work with all Windows OS’s 2000 or better.
Edit: Here is the same tip but better for OSx From Reader Sandy:
And also, if you’re running OSX: Command-Shift-4 does the same thing, and also saves the image to your desktopfor easy attachment to e-mails. For windows with rounded borders, the little bits of desktop that would be visible at the corners is automatically removed.
CONTEST: Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 Suite Review.
Oct 29th
The contest is still going until next Friday – so leave a comment why you should be our winner in this Roxio sponsored contest!
Your new laptop or desktop probably already came with built in software for burning CD’s and DVD’s. So why should you go out and cop the newest burning software and drop your cold hard cash?
It seems that is what was on Roxio’s mind when they crammed in a whole bunch of new stuff into Roxio 10.
There are a lot of new features and niceties that add up to the staggering 1.53 GB installer size. Some of the stand out features are:
- The Smart Soundtrack feature which allows you to add sound to your slideshows
- Creating gifts with your images on them like calendars (very cool!)
- The option to fix images for viewing on mobile phones (removing those nasty borders)
- The Panoramic stitcher was also sparingly easy to use
- A 3 step wizard lets you auto-edit your movie, then upload to YouTube in one click
- Capture and edit HD video and add surround sound playback, record Internet radio, batch convert files, backup your iPod and more.
- Enhance photos and video taken on your mobile devices and use them in projects with your other media
- Certified for Windows Vista and fully supports Windows XP.

Ok so now your ears are perking up so lets get into it. Roxio Central is your jump off point when you start up EMC10. It is very intuitive and fits in with the Vista decor. This is where you are going to come to do most of your burning tasks like creating music and data disks, photos, video and a bunch of tools. Some of the eye grabbing new tools are located in separate applications listed here:
· MyDVD
· BackOnTrack
· CinePlayer
· Creator Classic,
· Label Creator,
· Media Manager, Music
· Disc Creator,
· PhotoSuite,
· Sound Editor,
· Video Copy & Convert VideoWave
You can obviously select which features/apps you want on your system during the initial install. You can slim down the installation this way. As we said earlier EMC10 fits in with Vista very nicely, and to add to integration Creator can live in your Windows Sidebar for easy access. The look and feel of the whole suite is a whole new ball game compared to 9. We like it!
We used some of the built in tools to enhance pictures, create a mix CD, play around with some evil looking panoramic pictures and, of course, burned and converted media. There are a lot of tools in here that the basic end user can use without a degree in computer science. Good job Roxio! We think it is a totally different product then Nero 8 and feel this is a better fit for someone with minimal computer experience.
And BTW: We can’t giveaway our copy of EMC 10 because it is not a retail copy – but who wants our swag? Hit us up in the comments!
