Karl,

Sugar sells an add on for Outlook. It is a couple bucks/user and they also have one for word. The only flaw I've seen with the 30 day demo of the Outlook integration toolbar is that it doesn't sync the calendar entries properly...I think. I have to test it again.

I should also mention that for the Lotus Notes crew of the world, there is an add on in development by www.linkpoint360.com that works well, but needs to sync up the calendar. I've tested it.

There is also talk of integration with Zimbra in their forums, but I wonder how that changes with the purchase by Yahoo!.

Sugar can really be all things to all people because the community that develops for it is huge.

Thanks for the insights Jon - Slothman ran down the different flavors or Sugar and I believe he mentioned net applications that have already been expanded on.

Is Vtiger free? Hit us up with some more information if you have it!

Outlook not syncing is going to be a deal breaker - unless there is a 3rd party app to do it.

Great Article Sloth & Awesome comment Jon! NEED MORE DATA...

This is really ironic. I am in a similar situation you are admin. For the past week, I have been doing CRM work for my company and setting it up. I so far like sugar the best due to its easy customization and GUI. I really like openCRX for scalability, but it just has such a horrible GUI which is very unintuitive that I cannot even use; so I am afraid of what my users will be able to do. I know I can re-write it but the TCO would really go up and with a small group of users <50 the scalability will not be a problem. To let you know vitger http://www.vtiger.com/ is based on sugar. It has a few cool things that the open source edition of sugar does not (like Outlook synchronizing). I am going to give them a go also. A technique I am using to test these CRM's is to create a project, manage the tasks and time tracking in them, and create a few contacts. I know that it is going to be a bit different and depending on what I choose I will need to import that data but this will be well worth if after I decide on one with the best TCO for our organization.
