The bootchart utility creates a PNG image that details exactly what process is loading during the boot sequence. Ubuntu users can install bootchart using:
sudo apt-get install bootchart
After installing bootchart, you will need to reboot. When you log in, navigate to /var/log/bootchart and you will find the extremely detailed image.
