Question of the day: Is there a cheaper alternative to WWAN for internet on the go?

Jose in Santa Monica writes in asking about how he can get internet on the go on his windows xp laptop. He already pays for a cell phone bill and does not want to add another $60 – $80 a month just to do some light web browsing.

Can you hook up Jose?

I can a solution that I use on the go but, lets see what our readers have to say.

You can use your phone as a modem. If you are in an area with edge you should see speeds around 100-200kpbs. Hows that it should be included in your plan. But check with your carrier first mate.

    Cheers!

All WM6 devices do it easily and WM5 devices need to load another driver. But it is as simple as tethering the two together and enabling internet sharing!

100kbps is better than dial up and hell its better than having nothing. All I have to do is make sure I have a mini-usb cable with me and my dash becomes my wireless modem!

    Got any better ideaS?
