MJ writes to us that her machine runs updates around lunch time and she keeps getting the prompt do you want to restart now?
Not only is it annoying – sometimes she clicks yes by accident and her whole world comes crashing down. (See the fix for this at the bottom of the post – not [...]

A reader from Idaho was seriously freaked out after a late night at the computer and sent us a picture of their task manager in a strange state.
They asked for their identity to be with held so here is a screen-shot of a random person’s task manager in a similar mode.
Have you seen this before? [...]

I wasn’t sure who I should contact about this, so i am sending this to you. As of late, word attachments coming from my friend on a Windows XP Machine appear as “winmail.dat” files.
When I try to open these, the text runs about 150pp long, (it’s a 4page doc) and the [...]

So I got a frantic phone call yesterday from a buddy of mine who lost his PST file due to a crashed hard drive.
The thing is this guy normally backs up EVERYTHING! I was shocked he didn’t have another copy ready to go.
When I asked him why he didn’t back up his PST file regularly [...]

I have this user who just got upgraded to a new laptop. When he logged in for the first time and opened Outlook, he was shocked. He said the fonts were way to small (Apparently he is as blind as a bat, or just likes larger fonts). Anyway, he called me to fix it.
If you [...]

So we flopped around Google’s website yesterday and stared in disbelief as the only answer to backup or export your data still seemed like a crappy work-a-round.
But it looks like WordPress one up’ed Google’s Blogger by adding an Import feature to their Wordpress 2.0!
It also works with LiveJournal, TypePad and MovableType.
It only works with NEW [...]

I found this:
Access AOL using IMAP
Unlike many other ISPs, which use the POP3 method, AOL uses the IMAP method. Usually, you can easily auto-configure AOL Mail from your mobile device. The steps are:
Press Start and scroll to Messaging.
Select Outlook E-mail > Menu > Options > New Account.
Enter your name.
Enter your e-mail address.
Check the box that says Attempt to obtain e-mail settings from the Internet and select Next.
In the Auto Setup screen, wait until the status changes from Connecting to Finished.
Enter your e-mail user name.
Enter your password.
Leave Domain blank.
Check Save password, so you don’t have to enter it every time you check e-mail.
Select Next.
Make sure that Server Type is set to IMAP4.
Select Next.
Make sure that Incoming Server is set to imap.aol.com.
Where it says, Require SSL connection, say No (uncheck the box).
Make sure that Outgoing Server is set to smtp.aol.com:587.
Where it says, Outgoing server requires authentication, say Yes (check the box).
Change the preference settings as appropriate and select Next.
Select Finish.
Select Yes to confirm that you would like to download mail for this new account now.
To view your latest messages on your smartphone, select Menu > Send/Receive.

Gmail For Black Jack:
Gmail in your inbox … here’s a handy workaround for your Smartphone (and maybe PDA) to have gmail in your inbox…
Setup your Gmail account to allow POP access (this is done in the settings section)
Go to Messaging on the Blackjack
Click on New Account
Select Other POP3/IMAP. Click Next.
Enter your Gmail information (name, email address). Click Next.
Click Next again to skip the automatic download of settings.
Enter your Gmail username like this: recent:username@gmail.com, enter your password. Click next.
Click next on the Server Type screen. (POP3 is correct) (You can alternately rename the account name here to make it easy to recognize) READ ON FOR MORE!!!
Type
in pop.gmail.com for incoming server, smtp.gmail.com for outgoing.
Make sure that all of the SSL boxes are checked. Click next.
On the download the following messages screen, select all messages, and entire message. Click next.
Have it check every 15 minutes. Click next.
Click finish.
Click Yes to confirm.
At
this point, you are good to go. If you use Outlook or the like for an email program, your emails will show up in both places now. Your Blackjack will have the exact same emails.
UNLIMITED DATA IS GOING TO BE IMPORTANT!
Also, just as an FYI – this can run side by side with an Exchange sync!!
