Overall, everything from a networking, internet access, wireless network access, and domain login user is working fine in the configuration I have, execpt this proxy issue. I'm hesitant to make any changes to the network since everything else is working and this seems like a domain or GPO configuration issue. My internal network is using the 10.1.0.x subnet. Static IPs are 10.1.0.2 - 10.1.0.24 and DHCP is the rest of the range.

hmm thats interesting. You are going to have to not use the wireless router/hub for your lan at all.

You can replace it with an external linksys or belkin and configure it for the lan.

But the way you have it set up now will not work properly. But th still doesnt explain the proxy issue.

One more wrinkle, the Qwest DSL router has the wireless router built in. I should have been more specific. I also think I may need to give you more info, Qwest DSL router with Wireless has a 4 port switch built-in. It wasn't enough ports as I have 6 PCs plus server so I also have a 32 port switch in the mix. The 32 port switch is non-configurable (Netgear), but the way I have it now, I have port 1 of Qwest DSL router going to 32 port switch and then all PCs plus the internal nic on server plugged into 32 port switch. Port 2 of Qwest DSL router has the internet nic on the server plugged into it. other two ports on the Qwest DSL router are empty.

Sorry Jeff should have been clearer.

Your isp line comes into your dsl modem the cable from the modem plugs into nic 1.

Nic 2 connects to your internal network. This is where you can put your wireless router.

Dont worry about the questions noob or ol' skool we are here to help!

Forgive me if I'm being very dumb here, but I think that the DSL router has to get the internet IP from the ISP (Qwest Business DSL with a 2700HG-D Gateway DSL Modem if that matters). So I'm not sure how I can have one of the the SBS server nics get the internet IP. I'm really sorry if this is a complete newbie question.

yes you need to bridge the connections and that might just make it all work as well. the setup karl says is better and more secure but just enabling bridge mode on the adapters should work as well. no fus no mus

Okay lets take this one step at a time then.

The way I configure my sbs is to have one nic getting the ip from the isp giving internet to the server.

Then activate dhcp on the server to give out internal addresses like 192.168.1.x to your network. The dhcp will give the dns info of itself and clients requests go through the server.

This keeps your internal network all secure and what not.

So if your server has say 66.66.66.66 on the nic connecting to your isp. And 192.168.1.1 on your internal side.

Then activate dhcp with a scope of 192.168.1.2-254 or whatever you need and make sure to add in the 192.168.1.1 as the dns server.

Now go into network connection properties and right click on one of your two connections and choose bridge networtk connections.

Now you have two seperate networks that can speak to each other. Give it a shot and let me know.

If not and you have internet access on the server I could help you out a little more remotely.

_TheAdmiN_

OK, I have a couple of problems. This server and the PCs are at a remote site and the person with this PC is not in today so I can't get the ipconfig /all right now.

The server has two ethernet ports, one is configured with a static IP and points to itself as the DNS server, the other is also a static IP, but has the ISP DNS servers. Both have the wireless DSL router as the default gateway. In the SBS 2003 wizard, one is setup as the internet connection and one is setup as the server local area connection. This was the only way I could get the domain server recoginized to the PCs and also get internet access when I set this up. If I recall when setting this up, using only one ethernet port I could only get one or the other to work until I configured both ports with difference addresses and different DNS setups.

We have one static IP from ISP although its a bit hokey as we still configure DSL router as DHCP from ISP and it always gets same address.

Also, DSL router is a wireless router, which is why I have it configured as DHCP server and not the SBS 2003 server.

Does the server have internet? If so your server should be the default gateway and dhcp giving out nat address. Unless all of your clients are going to have external addresses.

can u send us a ipconfig /all from the client machine after it logs in?

Thank you for your help.

1. Do you have other servers running AD in your network?

No, this is the only server

2. Have you configured any group policy? If so what have you added, disabled or changed?

No, I only used the various setup wizards in SBS 2003

3. Is this server also your DNS server? If so are your clients pointing to it as their primary dns server?

Yes and Yes

7.
