Tmobile Wing Crippled By Tmobile??
Written by Karl L. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com on June 29, 2007 – 11:27 am -HAPPY FRIDAY BOYZ AND GIRLS!
So Windows Mobile 6 Professional says it comes with a remote desktop client but where is it on this new device from Tmobile?
I went looking for it today to access one of my servers on the fly and guess what - It ain’t there! I called Tmobile on it and they said it does not come with Mobile 6 pro - according to Microsoft here .
Tmobile then went on to tell me it is a feature that most WM6 devices will not have it as it costs money for an additional licence. I don’t get it! WM5 had it no problem even its predecessor had it… I can’t buy it, download it, or even find it!
Another issue I noticed with this WM6 device is I can not change ANY system files on the device. I can not replace the TMOBILE home page that comes up as part of IE. I can not change other templates. I tried from the phone, from Activesync, and a few other ways that I was sure was going to work.
Anyone know a way around either of these issues? And how about a way to SIM unlock it while you are at it?

A good site to unlock that beast that is the T-Mobile Wing or HTC Herald is here http://www.imei-check.co.uk/heraldunlock.php
It was $40 bucks US and worked like a charm. They do unlock all HTC made devices for Tmobile and others as well. I dont work for them but they made my life alot easier. thought i would let you admins know.

This is very common for T-Mobile to lock down features. I just wrote a similar thing where they have locked down playing MP3’s as ring tones. For issues like yours where Microsoft puts that feature on the OS, but T-Mobile changes it so it is not there. It can usually be overcome by flashing the phone with a different carriers ROM. You will have to change the network settings to fit T-Mobile, but other than that you should be good. For Pocket PC and Windows Mobile hacking, one of the best places to go to is The XDA Developers site.

Thanks El Di Pablo but Tmobile says that there will be different versions of WM6 PRO depending on he amount of money they pay for optional components - but i can not verify that at the moment.
I have a call into my dude @ microsoft but I think he i out waiting on line for the iPhone!!!!

As for unlocking…I asked T-Mobile for the code and received it in 24 hours after 14 days of owning the phone. The only stipulation is that the account the phone to be unlocked is on needs to be current and no other unlock codes have been requested for the last 90 days.
There are various ’scripts’ procedures for people to follow if they are unsure. I basically called 611 and straight up asked for it.
I don’t recall a CSR asking for a reason why I wanted the phone unlocked. I think I might have mentioned I was going to be travelling abroad. Asking for this was pretty painless. Much easier than trying to ask AT&T for an unlock code which I have found to be unsuccessful.
As for locking down playing MP3’s as ring tones…that’s totally false. I have 8 MP3 ringtones on my Wing. The files just need to be saved to the correct folder.

Hey Honkys thanks for your 2 cents but I am not a tmobile customer I get the phones as demo devices with a 2 month demo sim. I have gotten my carrier Cingular / ATT to unlock a 6515 and a 6915 saying I need to use prepaid sims in Germany on VodaPhone… Bang 24 hours later I had mine.
I tried but Tmobile wont unlock the device for me. You need an account that is more than a few months old and have longer than a 1 year contract left - The $40 option is the only one for non-tmobile users.
As for MP3 as ringtones that is no problem and I have been doing it from the get go. But the missing remote desktop client… Sorry thats a deal breaker until i find a different rom.
I also have been looking into modifing the memory cache. I have seen people get another 8mb free or so. (What is this 1992??) But you have to flash the device and no bootloader has come out yet.
So I will wait. Come back and check us out again!

Ahh and i see what the mp3 thing was. I looked at el di pablo’s article in this link he was talking about mp3 lockdown on a Samsung phone under ATT / Cingular not the wing.
How do you like your wing?
