Deleted items in Outlook slow to synch with Blackberry
Written by Karl L. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com on June 21, 2007 – 12:19 pm -I got this question from a reader on my blog about his Blackberry. I had originally wrote about Deleted items on your Blackberry not syncing with Outlook, but this guy’s problem is the reverse. He has a user whose deleted items in Outlook do sync with the Blackberry, but they can take a few hours to sync. Here is what he has to say:
“My user can delete a msg from his Messages on his 8300, and it instantly deletes from his Outlook Inbox.
HOWEVER
If he deletes (either by clicking X on the Outlook toolbar or by hitting the delete key) an item in Outlook, it does NOT sync in a reasonable time on his 8300. Some messages have taken hours to be gone from his BB, even after selecting Reconcile Now. ?????? wth?”
Can I get some ideas on this? Hit me up in the comments!

Does the user go through a BES server?

How many items are in the deleted folder?
I had this problem with other huge folders once I tried cuting all the messages from the folder and moving them to a temp folder
i then added 1 msg to the folder to by synced. And that fixed my problem.- it synced quick.
It turned out it was a corrupt msg in the folder. I just kept adding them in blocks of 20 until i found the culprit.

why would you want to sync there deletes?

When you delete something from your mail client, you usually want it deleted from your PDA as well, and vice versa… Sorry if the syntax was confusing.

Slothman: Good question, they didn’t specify. I am assuming BES, because that is what the original blog post was about.

Karls idea will work if it is a corupt email or an issue with consistancy. have you tried it yet? Curious as if it is going to work

I was talking with my company’s BES admin, and he said that the latency from the deleted items sync going from Outlook back to the Handheld is normal and there isn’t anything you can do about it. He said that deleted items on the phone sync almost instantly, but backwards it can take some time.

Wow…that is not my experiences with the BES at all!
Must be an Outlook/Exchange issue!
Glad we’re a Notes/Domino shop!
It might also help that we’re a very small shop…only 25 BES clients, but with the Notes/Domino BES deletions from Notes are sync’d via the air within 30 seconds. Changes via Notes, such as calendar entries and changes are reflected, via the air, within 30 seconds.
We have our BES and our clients set that the Notes client wins, meaning all actions performed on the handheld need to be approved during a manual sync on the Blackberry Desktop Software.
Crappy answer at best, but it is the answer.
