So, 1 day after launch iPhones are readily available.

Written by Karl L. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com on June 30, 2007 – 10:47 am -

So all the local NYC stores still have stock on the iPhone. eBay yesterday, around 7pm, had these things going for as much as $1200! Now there are so many auctions for .99 and no bids.

If you still want one there are deals to be had. I feel bad for the line waiters and high fee payers but that’s the price for being a mac fan boy I guess.

Rumor: The Jesus / iPhone will have Exchange support & rss reader.

Written by Karl L. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com on June 29, 2007 – 12:26 pm -

I just saw this from The Giz who got this from Think Secret:

The kids over at ThinkSecret have some exclusive pics of what they purport to be interface shots of the iPhone.

In these, we clearly see an RSS view thanks to the reader.mac.com URL, a previously unseen SIM loading procedure (requiring a paperclip), and what appears to be an Exchange email configuration tab. TS says that the iPhone supports Microsoft Exchange servers and has likely licensed Microsoft’s ActiveSync. The latter dealio we’ve heard before and is certainly making corporate IT departments a bit fidgety. After all, more than a few CEOs will be demanding integration of their new toys come Monday morning. Jobs himself responded to a USA Today question about the lack of corporate email support with, “You’ll be hearing more about this in the coming weeks. We have some pilots going with companies with names you’ll recognize. This won’t be a big issue.” The fact that most of these pictures still sport the old Cingular logo certainly doesn’t give us much confidence for an “iDay” release.

Update: As pointed out by a number of our readers, the Exchange tab likely configures IMAP4 access to Exchange like Apple’s OS X Mail.app client. Made all the more likely by yesterday’s “Rollup 3″ release by Microsoft which fixes Mac related issues with Exchange 2007.

Tmobile Wing Crippled By Tmobile??

Written by Karl L. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com on June 29, 2007 – 11:27 am -

HAPPY FRIDAY BOYZ AND GIRLS!
So Windows Mobile 6 Professional says it comes with a remote desktop client but where is it on this new device from Tmobile?

I went looking for it today to access one of my servers on the fly and guess what - It ain’t there! I called Tmobile on it and they said it does not come with Mobile 6 pro - according to Microsoft here .

Tmobile then went on to tell me it is a feature that most WM6 devices will not have it as it costs money for an additional licence. I don’t get it! WM5 had it no problem even its predecessor had it… I can’t buy it, download it, or even find it!

Another issue I noticed with this WM6 device is I can not change ANY system files on the device. I can not replace the TMOBILE home page that comes up as part of IE. I can not change other templates. I tried from the phone, from Activesync, and a few other ways that I was sure was going to work.

Anyone know a way around either of these issues? And how about a way to SIM unlock it while you are at it?

Post em in the comments or send them to info at asktheadmin dot com.

Array down!! Do you know about SATA Raid arrays? now with answers!

Written by Karl L. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com on June 28, 2007 – 7:14 am -

I have a buddy with a Buffalo Terastation Pro 2gb in a raid 5 array. They had major power outages in Manhattan yesterday and lets just say there was no UPS. When the power came back on the array smelled burnt and no power…

They have purchased another identical terastation but the drives show as failed and Buffalo Tech Support isnt very helpful. you figure they would want to help a customer that has purchased an expensive array and then bought a 2nd one to repair the first one that is still under warranty…

Does anyone know if I can connect these drives to an SATA Raid Controller card and have it read the data. Should i do this in Windows or Knoppix?

While your at it what are some of the advantages of SATA over IDE or SCSI?

Any reco’s for a good controller card that wont give me problems?

Help hurtin’ in manhattan. Leave us some comments or solutions in the comment field below or hit us @ info at asktheadmin.com dot com.

as a jumping off point I found this:

http://forum.linkstationwiki.net/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=1132&p=9965&hilit=terastation+power+CORRUPTION#p9965
and this
http://www.terastation.org/wiki/Data_Recovery

24 hours later I have my frankenstein terrastation connected to a new terrastation and the drives all connected to an Pci-Express SATA Raid Controller. After figuring out their correct order and downloading a SUPER DOPE program called UFSexplorer and reading this information here: I was able to mount my virtual array. Specify my raid 5 settings per that last article and BAM! I see files… Now we are setting up the new terra station to push the data to. Wow that was exauhsting!!!
Boys and Girls the moral of the story is always use a UPS and if you want to be brave and not spend a couple bucks on a UPS then I have one word for you… Ummm maybe two… INCREMENTAL BACKUPS!!!!!

the iPhones iUpdate of the day

Written by Karl L. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com on June 27, 2007 – 1:32 pm -

So it looks like anybody who is anybody got their iPhones already and have their reviews out. The big wigs were NYT, WSJ, USAtoday and Newsweek. None of the sites I thought would get em - got them. Strange, I was sure Engadget or Gizmodo would have gotten one.

Well, the reviewers ran down their expectations and what they actually got out of it. Here is a quick list of things the iPhone DOES NOT have. Any combination of these would be a deal breaker for me:

• 3G of Any Flavor
• GPS
• A real keyboard
• Removable battery
• Expandable Storage
• Direct iTunes Music Store Access (Over Wi-Fi or EDGE)
• Songs as Ringtones
• Games
• Any flash support
• Instant Messaging
• Picture messages (MMS)
• Video recording
• Voice recognition or voice dialing
• Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Streaming (A2DP)
• One-size-fits-all headset jack (May have to buy an adapter for certain headphones)

iOuch that iBlows! Here are links to the reviews:

Torrent Spy and ISOHunt will be filtering copyrighted materials for you pirates out there!

Written by Karl L. Gechlik | AskTheAdmin.com on June 27, 2007 – 1:02 pm -

Arrrrrrrrrr! No more copyrighted material will be flying around the trackers at two of the more popular bit torrent trackers on the interwebs. Is this a new trend? Will all the trackers fall prey to this trend?

How did the pirates get the birds to stay on their shoulders? Did they keep bird seed up there and do the birds use said shoulder as a bathroom as well?

Comments?? Questions? Hit us up in the comments!
